Charity calls on young people from forces families to co-develop ground-breaking multimedia campaign

Forces Children Scotland has issued a call to young people from serving and veteran families to co-develop a ground-breaking campaign to help civilian audiences better understand what it’s like to be a forces child today.

Young people, aged between 13-19 years old, from Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force families across Scotland have until Monday 23rd May 2022 to apply to join the campaign working group to take the creative process forward this summer.

The working group will come together for a week-long immersive creative residential in Edinburgh to share their lived experience, which will serve as the thematic foundation to co-develop a powerful campaign to help people understand the lives they lead.

Many young people from serving and veteran families have told Forces Children Scotland that they feel a seldom-heard group and that their lived experience and how this can affect the lives they lead are simply not on the radar of civilian audiences.

The charity has secured funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and ABF: The Soldiers Charity to work in partnership with London-based creative agency, Effervescent, to amplify the voice of this seldom-heard group louder than ever before.

Laura Falconer, Forces Children Scotland Chief Executive Officer, said:

“We are thrilled to work in partnership with Effervescent to deliver this wonderful opportunity for young people from serving and veteran families across Scotland, whom I hope will consider getting involved in what will prove a life-changing experience.

“Our campaign will provide not only an opportunity to creatively express lived experience but also to develop new skills, build confidence and forge new friendships through shared experience, belonging and a collective sense of purpose.”

Rich Halliday, Chief Executive Officer of Effervescent, said:

“We’re over the moon to be working with Forces Children Scotland. Both organisations are passionate about giving young people a voice and are totally committed to co-production – so we’re a great fit.

“We want to help people understand what it’s like to be a forces child today, and there’s no better way to do that than to co-design a campaign with a group of forces children themselves… so we can’t wait to get started!”

Information for young people, parents, carers and professionals, as well as an online application form to join the campaign working group, is available via a campaign landing page hosted on Effervescent’s website.
