Military Charity CEO to cycle distance of 7 marathons in 24 hours to support veterans.

  • Fergus Williams, CEO of WWTW, to cycle 200 miles
  • Taking place on Monday June 21st
  • Fergus will be cycling from WWTW’s hub in Manchester to WWTW HQ in Stody, Norfolk

Former Welsh Guardsman and Walking With The Wounded (‘WWTW’) CEO, Fergus Williams, is preparing to set off on a 200-mile cycle from the WWTW North West Hub in Canada Street, Manchester to the WWTW Head Quarters in Stody, Norfolk. Leaving early on Monday 21 June, Fergus is planning to complete the challenge in 24 hours.

Fergus Williams explains,

The Longest Day is a fantastic challenge that anyone can take on. I have decided to cycle between two WWTW hubs to raise awareness of the vital work that our team does to support those who serve and to raise vital funds. Whilst I will certainly find this cycle ride challenging, it pales in comparison to the obstacles those who served overcome as they transition to life after Service.”

In 2015, WWTW opened a regional hub in Manchester which was built by Nick Knowles and the BBC DIY SOS team to support the local ex-service community. As well as providing an office for our North West team, the hub also offers a Training House with four short-term, supported beds providing accommodation for clients completing their journey back into employment and independence.

Fergus will be joined en route by fellow ex-Welsh Guards officer, turned elite professional ultra-runner, Tom Evans. Tom made his mark on the ultra-running scene after securing third place at the Marathon des Sables, a 7-day multi-marathon event, held in the Sahara desert.

Fergus’s route will take him to WWTW’s North Norfolk HQ via Buxton, Derby, Nottingham, Grantham, Kings Lynn, and Fakenham.

Fergus is taking on the incredible feat to support ‘The Longest Day’ challenge, a fundraising campaign launched by WWTW in partnership with Brian Wood MC and his brand ‘Keep Attacking’. Brian and WWTW are challenging people to set a new personal best and, simply, go further than they have gone before to raise funds for other veterans who need mental health support.

So far, lots of people have signed up to take part in the Longest Day challenge, including:

  • Lisa is running 100 miles, cycling 60 miles and swimming 10 miles.
  • Jamie is aiming to complete the 3 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours.
  • David is running a marathon on June 21st.
  • Dean is hiking Scotland’s West Highland Way in 5 days, a 96-mile trek.
