Today’s research leads to tomorrow’s care – your Veterans’ Health Research Priorities

What is this survey for?

In a survey earlier this year, we asked veterans, their friends and families and the healthcare professionals who work with them to tell us about areas of physical and mental health and wellbeing that need further investigation.

We did this because we want to help make sure that future research is done on the questions that matter most to veterans and the people around them.

This is being done as part of a Priority Setting Partnership led by veterans, family members, charities and healthcare professionals and supported by the Office for Veterans’ Affairs. We are working with the James Lind Alliance to do this. With your help we will identify the Top 10 priorities for research that would improve quality of life for veterans and their families and/or significant others.

Thank you to everyone who sent comments and questions. We have taken all of them into account.

The questions that can be addressed by research, but haven’t yet been fully answered, were summarised and are listed in this new survey. Others will be used in different ways and will be included in our report.

What do we mean by ‘Veteran’?

By ‘veteran’ we mean any person who has served in the regular or reserve UK armed forces. This includes all former UK service personnel who have served for one day or more. It also includes merchant mariners who have seen duty on legally defined military operations. It does not include anyone currently serving in the regular or reserve UK armed forces.

Who should take part in this survey?

This survey is for the people listed below. For the purpose of this survey, please tick the box that best represents your primary role. This will help us check that we are hearing from a wide range of people. We’re sorry but if you are a current serving member of the regular or reserve UK Armed Forces, you are not eligible to complete this survey.
